Lecture Description
What if your team's best ideas are being buried under daily firefighting? Lean thinking starts with a question: what if everyone on your team was empowered to fix what frustrated them? Instead of pushing people harder, you remove the obstacles in their way. Small ideas from everyone, every day, compounding into transformation.
This session introduces Lean principles in the context of specialty coffee operations: what waste actually looks like in a roastery or café, why removing burden from people leads to better quality.
You'll see these principles in action through a case study of one roastery's first year of Lean transformation: weeks of person-hours reclaimed from routine tasks, capacity created by using brains instead of wallets, and a culture transformed as problem-solving became a daily ritual.
It's easy in specialty coffee to think of efficiency as a commodity word, something that belongs to industrial roasters, but Lean thinking teaches the opposite: remove burden from people and quality gets easier to deliver.
Forget the corporate caricature. Learn how seeing and removing waste can take you from firefighting to flow and leave with practical ideas to get started in your café or roastery, whatever your size.
